WhatsApp message templates, approved and ready

Outside a live conversation, WhatsApp only sends pre-approved templates — which is how the channel stays low-spam. Templates come in three categories, take variables, buttons, and media, and we draft and submit yours so they pass review the first time.

Categories, variables, and approval

Every template belongs to a category that decides what it's for and how it's priced. Utility templates carry transactional updates — an order shipped, an appointment confirmed. Authentication templates carry login codes. Marketing templates carry offers and announcements. The category you register sets both the rules and the rate.

The fixed text of a template is approved as-is; the parts that change are marked as variables you fill per send — a name, an order number, a code. So one approved template serves thousands of personalised messages. You can add buttons (quick replies, a link, a call) and a media header (an image, a PDF, a location) within the template.

Templates go to Meta for review, usually within a day. The common reason one bounces is a mismatch between the category and the content — a marketing message dressed as utility — or wording that reads as spam. We draft and submit yours to clear those on the first pass, so a launch isn't waiting on a re-submission.

Once approved, a template can be sent in a broadcast or as a one-off, in any language you registered it in. You version and update templates as your messaging changes, and we manage that with you so your library stays current and approved.

Frequently asked

How long does template approval take?

Usually within a day. The common cause of a longer wait is a template whose category doesn't match its content, or wording that reads as spam, which bounces for a correction. We draft and submit templates to clear review on the first pass so you're not waiting on re-submissions.

What are the template categories?

Utility for transactional updates like an order or appointment, authentication for login codes, and marketing for offers and announcements. The category sets both what the template is allowed to say and how the conversation it opens is priced, so getting it right matters.

Can I personalise an approved template?

Yes, within its variables. The fixed text is locked to what was approved; the variable parts — a name, an order number, an amount — are filled per send. Buttons and a media header are part of the template too, so a single approved template powers thousands of personalised messages.

Why was my template rejected?

Most often a category mismatch — marketing content in a utility template — or wording that reads as promotional or spammy where it shouldn't. Sometimes a variable is used for text that should be fixed. We review and redraft against the guidelines so a resubmission passes.
