Broadcast WhatsApp templates to your opted-in list

A WhatsApp broadcast sends an approved template to a whole opted-in list at once — an offer, a launch, a re-engagement — with delivery and read receipts for every recipient. It's the Business API broadcast, not the 256-contact personal list.

How broadcasts work on the Business API

On the WhatsApp Business API a broadcast is a template sent to many recipients in one campaign. Unlike the personal app's broadcast lists, there is no 256-contact cap and no requirement that recipients have saved your number — only that they have opted in to hear from you. You segment the list, pick the template, and send.

Because it runs outside a live conversation, a broadcast uses an approved template — a marketing template for an offer, a utility template for an update. We help you get the template approved, and you fill its variables per recipient, so a single broadcast can still address each customer by name or order.

Every recipient returns a status — sent, delivered, read where they allow it — so you measure a campaign by who actually saw it, not just who it went to. Replies open the 24-hour window, turning a broadcast into conversations your team or a bot can pick up.

Broadcasts lean on your number's quality rating: send to people who want to hear from you and the rating stays high and your reach grows; blast unconsented lists and blocks and spam reports lower it, which caps how many you can message a day. We keep you on the right side of that, because it's what protects the channel.

Frequently asked

How is this different from a WhatsApp broadcast list?

The personal app's broadcast list is capped at 256 contacts and only reaches people who saved your number. The Business API broadcast has no such cap and reaches anyone who opted in, with delivery and read receipts per recipient and templates you can personalise. It's built for campaigns, not for a personal contact list.

Do recipients need to have opted in?

Yes. You must have each recipient's opt-in to message them, captured on your site, app, or another channel. Broadcasting to people who didn't opt in leads to blocks and spam reports, which lower your number's quality rating and tighten its limits. We keep the consent records and honour opt-outs.

Can I personalise a broadcast?

Yes. The fixed text of the template is approved once; the variable parts — a name, an order number, an amount — are filled per recipient, so a single broadcast addresses each customer individually. Buttons and media in the template work the same way.

How are broadcasts priced?

Per conversation, by category — a marketing broadcast is charged at the marketing rate — with GST shown separately. Our pricing-explained page covers how WhatsApp's conversation pricing works, and the pricing page has current rates.
